It is intended for use alone by individuals or as a company 'operating system,’ providing structure and connection across specialized tools or institutional processes. PRISM's key differentiator is the inclusion of iteration in the follow-through process and the pre-established thresholds and/or checkpoints to do so, usage of early and key progress indicators, and intentional document retention. After following the course of the roadmap through the implementation and iteration stage, it will eventually appear the problem has been solved or the question has been answered - but targets move, direct cause and effect relationships can remain ambiguous, and sustaining unfruitful solutions can be a waste on resources. Revisit the original expected outcomes and verify all objectives have been met to the current satisfaction of the original metrics, stakeholders, and/or customers.

Additionally, conduct a retrospective analysis of the logs that were retained to ensure an accurate understanding of exactly how the manipulated variables impacted outcomes. This assessment should also be saved for future use in related initiatives, to improve associated outcomes and avoid the duplication of efforts and

While often considered the 'planning stage' of the process, PRISM challenges this traditionally linear concept by refocusing on the identification & measurement of key performance factors as well as iteration possibilities. This typically starts with identification of variables, how they can be effectively measured, and then forecasting how they will progress into the targeted outcomes. The desired outcome is an initial roadmap will determine which variables are leveraged, when, and how - and establishing thresholds to trigger contingency planning.

BACKGROUND

When someone asked me if I could frame how my brain has worked through challenges in the constantly changing and high-risk professional environments I've worked in, I was surprised to hear my own answer. While I'll be the first to acknowledge that I couldn't have done any of it without the strong mentors and team members I've been fortunate enough to work with, one common thread came to mind as well - the process of first validating a problem, identifying variables and forecasting before implementation, then monitoring progress closely before formalizing long term management plans. When developing any initiatives or strategies, from the day to day - to even when faced with the toughest and most unpredictable circumstances, I've found it to be completely automatic and scalable for efficiency and any level of complexity.

I realized quickly that this process parallels the scientific method perfectly - which also comedically reinforces that my early teachers and family might have been onto something when pushing me towards the field of science. Now here we are, decades later, and I'm advocating for it's broader use in completely unrelated fields - who says life doesn't have a sense of humor?
